In early March 1979, AC/DC’s first tour of Japan during their “If You Want Blood” tour had to be canceled due to visa problems. Although only a short 4 date tour of the country was planned, it would have been the first time the band would have performed on Japanese soil.
The cancellation of the tour unfortunately resulted in Japanese fans missing out on an opportunity to see AC/DC with Bon Scott on stage since his untimely death would occur less than a year later. AC/DC would head to the USA in early May to continue their “If You Want Blood” tour on the cusp of releasing their album “Highway To Hell” that summer.
It wouldn’t be until 2 years after, February 1981 during the “Back In Black” world tour that AC/DC would first perform for fans in Japan, the first concert taking place at Expo Hall in Osaka.
AC/DC have since returned to Japan 3 other times, during the “For Those About To Rock” tour in 1982, the “Stiff Upper Lip” tour in 2001 and most recently the “Black Ice” tour in 2010.
