AC/DC Today: Deep Cuts: Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

From AC/DC's 1980 blockbuster album "Back in Black" is arguably one of rock music's finest rock 'n roll anthems. "Rock and Roll ain't Noise Pollution", the final track off the album (or the 5th track on side B for vinyl enthusiasts and longtime fans) sets a bluesy rock 'n roll groove topped with an unforgettable chorus. "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, Rock and Roll Ain't Gonna Die, Rock 'n Roll ain't Noise Pollution, Rock 'n Roll it will survive"

Going into the Compass Point sessions, the band had rough outlines for nine songs. After working through and recording the nine, the need for a tenth and final song was decided upon. Malcolm and Angus cleared the studio, directing the band and crew to the local bar, while they stayed behind and worked-up a riff for the final number. As Malcolm described it, "We bopped it down in about fifteen minutes and sat around for a while. The guys come back, we played it to Mutt and Mutt went ‘That’s cool. Let’s go for that one.’" The result was the album’s closing track, "Rock And Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution."

The song was also issued as a single from the album (backed with "Hells Bells") with various picture sleeves, unique to the country of issue.

AC/DC had last performed this song live at Circus Krone in München, Germany on June 17, 2003.

Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution (Young - Young - Johnson)

hey there all you middle men
throw away your fancy clothes
and while you're out sittin' on a fence
so get off your arse and come down here
cause rock 'n' roll ain't no riddle man
to me it makes good good sense
good sense yeah let's go

heavy decibels bells are playing on my guitar
we got vibrations comin' up from the floor
we're just listenin' to the rock
that's givin' too much noise
are you deaf you wanna hear some more
we're just talking about the future
forget about the past
it'll always be with us
it's never gonna die
never gonna die
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll ain't gonna die
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll it will survive
yes it will

I took a look inside your bedroom door
you looked so good lyin' on your bed
well I asked you if you wanted any rhythm and love
you said you wanna rock 'n' roll instead
we're just talking about the future
forget about the past
it'll always be with us
it's never gonna die
never gonna die
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll ain't gonna die
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll is just rock 'n' roll

rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll ain't gonna die
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' rolling will survive
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll will never die
rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
rock 'n' roll
rock 'n' roll

is just rock 'n' roll
