AC/DC Rarity Of The Month: Big Gun

AC/DC were asked to record a song for the upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger film “Last Action Hero”, the band obliged and“ Big Gun” was recorded and released in 1993 featuring Angus & Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams, and Chris Slade. The song was produced by Rick Rubin and did not appear on any AC/DC album release, however it was issued as a single (both CD and vinyl, and was otherwise only available as part of the film’s sound track album).

The single was released in the UK with a unique picture sleeve in a 12” maxi single vinyl single (with “Back In Black” and “For Those About To Rock” (both live in Moscow 1991), as well as a UK/European 7” vinyl single (with “Back In Black” live in Moscow), and different CD versions (some the same as the 12” maxi single, and another release with “For Those About To Rock” live in Moscow and “Shoot To Thrill” from Donington).
The USA and Australia also saw different releases of this single, both having completely different and unique picture sleeves than the UK/European versions.

“Big Gun” would remain otherwise previously unavailable until AC/DC’s 2009 “Backtracks” box set release, which also include the Live in Moscow ‘B sides in the deluxe edition of the set.
